Dr. Vera Tarman, MD

Dr. Vera Tarman, MD, MSc, FCFP, ABAM, FASAM, is a Toronto-based addiction physician with more than 20 years of experience specializing in sugar and food addiction. She serves as Medical Director of Renascent, one of Canada’s largest addiction treatment centres, where she pioneered the country’s first inpatient food addiction program. Since 2006, she has treated thousands of patients.
She is the author of Food Junkies: Recovery from Food Addiction, with a third edition forthcoming, and has published peer-reviewed research exploring the neurobiology and treatment of compulsive eating and food addiction.
Through the Food Junkies Podcast, Dr. Tarman interviews clinicians, researchers, and people in recovery. She also shares educational videos on her YouTube channel, Vera Tarman MD.
She founded and moderates I’m Sweet Enough: Sugar-Free for Life, a free Facebook group offering shared experiences, encouragement, and peer support for people on their recovery journeys.
